A new club has recently opened to student enrollment at Sauk Valley Community College.  The Business Club aims to help students further their education outside the classroom and strengthen student connections with local businesses.

The Business Club intends to have a number of local business guest speakers at Sauk Valley Community College in the hopes of allowing students greater opportunities to create their own personal network of business connections between themselves and with members of the wider Sauk valley area.

Any student planning to go into business can further their knowledge or experience within the club.  Emily Zimmerman, Assistant Professor of Business, said,  “Networking is a huge piece of any type of business… Community partnerships are a big thing and are top of our goals here at the institution.”

Students attending the club will have the opportunity for discussions with guest speakers, allowing them to gain a better focus on the area of a business degree they may want to pursue.

The variety of guest speakers will also provide students additional opportunities for advancement within their field of interest.  As an example, Zimmerman said that the club intends to host an accounting professional which will allow students the chance to receive advice in a more exact method and give the students a rare opportunity at an internship.

The club will offer a large variety of ways for students to develop their business network.  Community involvement, collaboration with local businesses, and involvement in economic development are all methods the club intends to utilize to help students grow their network.

As Zimmerman said, having a guest speaker from a larger company give examples as to what they do as part of their company may help students pin down their own developing interest. The speakers may even help students determine what forms of business they would not be interested in pursuing as well.
